Movie #16: Creepy Clips

Sometimes barbeque sauce is that good

Plot: Creepy Clips is a quick, little, tiny, mini anthology of sex, blood, and a band named Hellspawn Pilot. This anthology is only 2 stories long. The first is about a goth girl who works at Hollywood Video. She invites a fellow college classmate to her home so that they can run lines together for a play they are in. The only lines the goth girl has in mind are tan lines, if you know what I mean. The second story involves a woman who lost her sister to possible devil worshippers. For some reason she calls a radio show for help. Unfortunately she just had to look in the basement.

Redeeming Qualities:

Hellspawn Pilot! These dudes were jamming pretty much throughout the movie. Not a bad metal act.

The ending of the second vignette was very effective. The lightning, or the lack of lighting, contributed to the creep factor.

The junkie psychic with a huge bottle of aspirin.

Ouija for 1. The goths do know how to party.

Movie #15: Sinners

Plot: A bible thumping madman gets revenge on the people who killed his family. After he captures his victims, who include a drunk that killed his wife, a prostitute that gave his brother H.I.V. , and a drug dealer that killed his son, he chains them around his one bedroom apartment. After he preaches the holy book, he ends their lives one by one.

I don't know what's worse, the blood on the toilet seat or the lack of 2-ply

Redeeming Qualities:

The set dressing was really good. The apartment was actually lived in so it was as realistic as possible. Actually it reminded me of my old bachelor pad. Blood and all.

The religious dude was creepy. He looked like your friend's uncle who stays too late at family gatherings.

The black guy dies first. Now, now, now, now, now,... If you are a fan of horror movies, then you know this happens frequently throughout the history of the genre. So inside joke maybe?

Well everyone, it's been a while since my last post. I've been a little busy lately with my new podcast "Pinheads of Horror". It's a horror podcast that was started back in August. It features me and 4 other horror movie maniacs. We talk all things horror including video games, television, movies, music, art, and everything else. So after going through all the movies I noticed a few repeats form these box sets. So there is only going to be 195 reviews. But, after these are reviewed, I will be doing requests for any horror movie. Enjoy my spiral into mental damnation.

Movie #14: Serial Killer

Awesome grammar for a writer

Plot:  A divorced father tries to finish his latest novel about a serial killer. Unfortunately, snuff films keep appearing in his VCR. Future tapes reveal that people important or close to him are being captured an tortured. The novelist flashes back to the serial killers he's interviewed for his newest book, maybe giving him a clue to where the killer may be. Twists and turns lead us to a shocking conclusion of who is responsible of this.

Redeeming Qualities:

The soundtrack includes a Misfits-like band

Some nice plot twists

Sound was good and I had no problem hearing the actors

Blood and gore effects held up well

Lighting was also. Never a dark, unseeable sequence

Movie #13 Toe Tags

Movie # 13  Toe Tags

Plot:  A detective and his partner investigate a slew of killings that involve present and past partners and associates. For some reason, the toe tags from the deceased end up missing from the bodies of the victims. This is a classic who dunnit mystery slasher that doesn't let up until the final minutes. So who did it? The creepy forensic expert? The washed up chief? The not-all-there landlord lady with a huge mole? The huge mole on the not-all-there landlord lady?

Redeeming Qualities:

Toe Tags definitely had me guessing till the end to which I still got the killer wrong. Good job movie.

Good pacing of kills.

Chemistry of the two detective leads was good. 

There is a rent-a-cop that resembles Jack Black but with red hair. (Jack Red?)

This may not be a redeeming quality, but the coroner in this movie eats while doing autopsies on the victims. This seems to be a stereotype in horror movies. I've seen it at least a dozen times.

The look you give your friend after a not so subtle crop dusting.
